With 25 years of experience in delivering shipbuilding solutions, Pemamek is devoted to helping its customers to increase their productivity and competitiveness. Deep know-how expertise combined with technologically advanced solutions, allow serving customers with ideal, personalized solutions – from a single piece production to high volume mass production. Read the interview of Pemamek’s Jyri Luhtio, and get the insights on efficient micro panel welding.
Efficient Micro Panel Fabrication
Pemamek is the leading manufacturer in the sub-assembly automation for shipyards.
Pemamek’s complete production solutions in micro panel fabrication include plate edge milling, plate joining, profile assembly, fillet welding, robotized welding and manual finalizing.
“We offer personalized, tailor-made solutions to our customers depending on their capacity needs, available space for production solutions and the type of sub-assemblies,” explains Jyri Luhtio, Application Manager of Welding Automation at Pemamek.
“We can integrate several features to one single station, for example, profile assembly and robotized welding. Integration of multiple features to one station enables very efficient production for specific micro panel types.”

Various Production Lines for Micro Panel Fabrication
Pemamek’s mechanized and robotized modular solutions for efficient micro panel fabrication are designed to build up, for instance, panels, keels, frames, webs and bulkheads.
“We have different production lines for micro panel fabrication. Standard Micro Panel Line is the most flexible solution to most shipbuilding sub-assembly types. For instance, inner bottom webs and longitudinal bulkheads are effectively built-up with Standard Micro Panel Line,” Luhtio points out.
“Advanced Micro Panel Line includes an automated profile assembly and tack welding station and a separate robotized welding station. It can be used to effectively build-up, for example, transversally stiffened bulkheads.”

Plate lengthening line is scalable for customer needs and provides advanced tools for plate joining. Plate edge milling and joining can either be done in separate stations, or those production phases can be integrated into one station. When this station is combined with laser-hybrid welding, deformations and distortions on the panel are minimized.
“Only one person is needed to operate the integrated station and therefore less man hours are required for plate lengthening,” Luhtio adds.
“All of our production lines provide savings to production costs and human working hours and increase the output of your micro panel production.”
“One of our special solutions is our robot welding portal that has rotating beam and two robots. It can weld stiffeners regardless of the direction they’re mounted to the panel. Two robots weld the same stiffener simultaneously on both sides, which reduces the angular deformation.”
Robot welding portal is equipped with PEMA WeldControl 200 programming software, which provides easy-to-use and effective programming tools for the operator.
