Global pressure vessel manufacturer, Lointek, adopts modern welding automation to optimize and increase production capacity.
Lointek, a private company located in the Bilbao area, Spain, designs and manufactures steam boilers, HRSGs, surface condensers, high-pressure heat exchangers, and reactors. The company operates actively in the international markets and large-scale projects in three of its main industrial sectors, oil & gas, solar thermal plants, and boilers.
Pemamek’s delivery to Lointek included PEMA Assembly line TW5000-100, PEMA A100 Roller beds, and PEMA HD 6x5 Column & Boom.
With the PEMA welding automation solution, we have decreased the time used for assembly, but also the quality of our products has improved significantly

One of Lointek’s biggest facilities is located at the port of Bilbao and focuses on large and modular structures.
“Currently, Lointek employs around 250 people, who are all experts in their respective fields. We value in-house expertise and all the activities are carried out by our personnel,” begins Alexander Martin, Lointek’s Production Manager. “It is the technical and human resources that enable flexibility and developing complex products. Additionally, that ensures competitiveness and meeting the highest quality standards. That is why we find it crucial to constantly develop our expertise and production technology.”
The company has three facilities, two in Spain and one in Mexico. One of the biggest facilities is located at the port of Bilbao that focuses on large and modular structures. All critical manufacturing activities are done completely in-house, including finite element analysis, but also mechanical and thermal design.
To provide its customers with unique solutions, Lointek tailors each project according to the customer’s needs to ensure the most efficient and competitive alternative.
“We constantly aim to offer products that are superior in quality. This is achieved through an optimal conception of the system cycle, a detailed thermal and mechanical design, but also a meticulous selection of the materials”, Martin adds.
In 2020, Lointek started to research possible solution providers that could support them in optimizing and further advancing the company’s pressure vessel manufacturing. The most significant bottleneck was the time-consuming welding and assembly of the large structures.
“The initial discussions with Pemamek started as we needed to find a suitable and experienced partner to tackle our different improvement and automation challenges of selected production processes,” Martin says.
After profound layout designs, and scope planning, Pemamek’s delivery to Lointek included PEMA Assembly line TW5000-100, PEMA A100 Roller beds, and PEMA HD 6×5 Column & Boom.
The Column & Boom is equipped with PEMA WeldControl 500 that has laser-tracking and a special welding head designed for semi-narrow grooves (SNG).

The control system together with laser-tracking facilitates automated multi-layer welding, whereas the SNG welding head, which has recently developed tilting function, enables efficient welding in narrow grooves.
In addition to PEMA machinery, Martin points out the importance and convenience of Pemamek’s in-house developed software system which enables precise seam tracking.
“I want to give a special mention to the PEMA WeldControl software and its visual interface. We have been looking for a reliable seam tracking system for a long time and this software solution meets our expectations,” Martin highlights.
Martin says that the investment in the new production machinery has brought the improvements to the production that they initially were looking for. Efficiency and lower deformation rate being a few of them.
“With the PEMA welding automation solution, we have decreased the time used for assembly, but also the quality of our products has improved significantly,” says Martin.
Recently, Lointek has made remarkable efforts to increase its presence in the field of industrial steam boilers. As an example, the company acquired in total 10,000 square meters of new workshop space dedicated only for pre-fabrication of boiler components. The growth plans are clear, in which also the role of welding and production will be important.
“When it comes to possible future collaboration, we would like to highlight PEMA Robotic Nozzle Welding Station. Among the possible future investments, it is possible of expanding the current membrane wall panel manufacturing capacity with a PEMA solution,” Martin summarizes.
