TARKON powers ahead with PEMA

At Tarkon, no two workdays look alike. Whether building ship sections or bridge components, the company’s success depends on versatility and precision. To meet growing demands and streamline complex welding tasks, Tarkon invested in PEMA welding automation solutions – transforming their production with speed and confidence.

Automating complexity

Tarkon’s production scope is extraordinarily wide. “One day, we are fabricating parts of a ship, and on another day, parts of a bridge,” says Romuald Pawelek, Tarkon’s Production Manager. This variety demands not only skilled operators but also adaptive welding equipment.

To meet these evolving challenges, Tarkon has equipped its facility with three PEMA welding systems: a dual-head SAW/MAG column and boom, a compact dual station robot cell, and a large scale welding cell with a 7-by 4-meter working area with 7 ton payload.

With these investments, Tarkon has taken major leaps forward. “By using the PEMA solution, we have achieved two major improvements,” says Pawelek. “First, we have elevated our technological capabilities. Second, we have significantly boosted production efficiency.”

From manual to machine-backed mastery

One of Tarkon’s robotic welding cells is operated by Patryk Kusik. This PEMA robot station features two workstations, allowing seamless switching between parts and processes. Kusik is currently welding pipe brackets that require precise, multi-layer welds in size 8. The complexity and time demands of this work make it an ideal application for automation.

Each program runs for approximately 25 minutes, but getting to that point took some groundwork. “The training lasted a few days,” Kusik recalls. “Then, together with a colleague, we practiced different positions and welds for about a month. Now it’s at a pretty good level.”

This level of operator involvement is essential. Tarkon didn’t just install machines—they developed in house expertise. The transition empowered skilled workers to take on new roles as robot operators, expanding their technical capabilities while allowing robots to handle repetitive tasks.

Choosing the right partner

Before selecting Pemamek as the partner, Tarkon did its homework. “We compared systems from several companies,” says Pawelek. “We didn’t just evaluate the machines—we analyzed the complete system, including software.” What tipped the scales toward Pemamek was the user-friendly software interface and local service presence in Poland. For Tarkon, these two factors were critical. “The software was the most operator-friendly, and having service nearby was very important to us,” he explains.

Price competitiveness also played a role—but in the end, it was the total package that made the decision clear. “We tried it ourselves and chose PEMA,” Pawelek states. “Looking back, we think the decision was correct.”

A signal of strength to customers

For Tarkon, the benefits of automation extend beyond the factory floor. “Our customers see the new, professional equipment during audits or inspections,” says Pawelek. “It gives them additional trust in our company and I believe they are satisfied,” he adds. “They keep coming back.”

By blending skilled labor with cutting-edge technology, Tarkon is proving that smart automation doesn’t replace people—it amplifies them. In a sector where precision and productivity are non-negotiable, the company’s partnership with Pemamek is helping them weld a better future.
