Novmar relies on PEMA welding automation as a strategic tool for expanding into new markets

Founded in 1991 by Wieslaw Nowak, Novmar is a family company from Poland specializing in the power generation industry. Its core business includes boiler installation and service works, as well as equipment and steel structure installations.

Operating in 49 countries, Novmar’s primary markets are Scandinavia and Central Europe, serving sectors such as power generation and pulp mill manufacturing. Novmar aims to enhance its workshop manufacturing capabilities with a substantial investment in welding automation. This initiative not only boosts manufacturing capacity but also ensures high-quality production of demanding boiler parts, enhancing future competitiveness.

When asked about the rationale behind investing in welding automation, Wieslaw Nowak, owner of Novmar, explains:

“Our most valuable assets are our educated and highly talented people, alongside our state-of-the-art equipment. This investment distinguishes us from competitors, ensuring our independence and maintaining high quality. Thanks to Pemamek, we lead our field and surpass our competitors.”

Pemamek delivered to Novmar a complete boiler membrane wall welding station including auxiliary machines like tube blasting machines, fin calibration and blasting machines, and conveyors.

Investing in welding automation

Novmar places a high value on craftsmanship and quality, with plans to increase the manufacturing of demanding boiler parts for service projects in the future. When developing their workshop, Novmar engaged Pemamek early in the project:

“After the board made the pre-investment decision, we initially planned internally. However, we found it more beneficial to involve Pemamek early on. This approach proved highly successful,” describes Jarmo Pitkänen, Sales and Project Director at Novmar.

Following negotiations, it became clear that Pemamek could provide the solutions Novmar required. The investment in welding automation was integral to Novmar’s plans to enhance their workshop and plays a vital role in supporting the company’s long-term commitment to quality.

“We needed a solution to produce boiler wall panels primarily for service purposes. The new production line allows us to enter new market sectors,” explains Pitkänen.

Technical specifications were developed collaboratively between Pemamek and Novmar, sharing a vision for future growth.

“We chose Pemamek for their reputation as a trustworthy welding automation supplier. The technical solution was tailored to our needs within a reasonable time,” concludes Olek Partyka, CEO at Novmar.

The final delivery from Pemamek to Novmar included a complete boiler membrane wall welding station, along with auxiliary machines such as tube blasting and fin calibration units, and conveyors. The workshop installation proceeded smoothly with supervision from Pemamek’s experts.

Transitioning from skilled welders to proficient operators

The primary reason Novmar invested in PEMA welding automation was the modern, user-friendly software. While Novmar’s operators have extensive experience in manual welding of demanding boiler parts, this type of automation was a new experience:

“The modern operating software was pivotal. It simplifies automation control and allows for online storage of welding parameters,” says Olek Partyka.

Operators quickly adapted, supported by professional training provided by PEMA experts. Within two weeks, welders transitioned to confident operators, empowered by software available in their native language.

Pemamek was chosen for its modern, userfriendly software. Novmar’s skilled welders quickly adapted to welding automation and became proficient operators within days of training.

Future plans

Investing in welding automation has proven a significant opportunity for Novmar to enhance production speed and quality. PEMA machinery has already demonstrated quality and flexibility:

“We’ve successfully implemented our initial investment in PEMA machinery. We’re pleased with Pemamek as our partner and confident in our continued cooperation as we expand our manufacturing capacities,” says Partyka.
